Blades & Scalpels

What are blades & scalpels?

Scalpel handles carry a detachable blade on a standard fitment. Two fitments cover almost all dental use: the #3 handle series takes the smaller #10 to #15 blades used for virtually all intraoral incisions, and the #4 handle series takes the larger #20 to #25 blades. Long variants add reach for posterior access without changing the blade fitment.

How the blades & scalpels range is organised

Small blade fitment:
Handle #3 and #3L long for blades #10–15; handle #5 for blades #10–15.
Large blade fitment:
Handle #4 and #4L long for blades #20–23; handle #6 for blades #20–25.

Choosing the right blades & scalpel

For intraoral surgery the #3 handle with a #15 blade is the standard combination, with a #15C or #12 where a finer or hooked cut is wanted. Choose the long variants (#3L, #4L) if you routinely work at second and third molars — the extra shank keeps your hand out of the sightline. Check the fitment before ordering blades: a #20-series blade will not seat on a #3 handle.
