What are amalgam pluggers?

Pluggers condense amalgam into a preparation, forcing it against the walls and floor to eliminate voids and adapt it to the margins. Working-end diameter is the decision: a small face delivers more pressure per unit area and reaches into line angles, a larger face condenses bulk faster.

Choosing the right amalgam plugger

Start condensing with a small plugger into the line angles and internal corners, then move to a larger face for bulk. Condensation pressure matters more than instrument choice for the final result, but a plugger too large for the preparation cannot reach the corners where voids form.
