Mouth Mirrors

What are mouth mirrors?

Mouth mirrors provide indirect vision, retract cheek and tongue, and reflect light into the field. Front-surface mirrors carry the reflective coating on the front of the glass rather than behind it, which removes the ghost double image that a rear-surface mirror produces and matters whenever you are working through the mirror rather than just looking.

How the mouth mirrors range is organised

Front surface:
#3, #4, #5 and #6 — increasing diameter — supplied 12 per box.
Double-sided:
#5 cone socket double-sided with titanium blue coating, 6 per box.

Choosing the right mouth mirror

Size #4 and #5 are the general-purpose sizes; #3 suits paediatric and restricted access, #6 gives the widest field for retraction. Front-surface is worth the premium for any work done under indirect vision — endodontic access, posterior preparation, checking margins — because the second image from a rear-surface mirror is exactly what makes fine indirect work harder than it needs to be. Mirrors are consumables: they scratch, and a scratched mirror costs more in slowed work than a replacement does.
