Periotomes have a thin, sharp blade that slides down into the periodontal ligament space and cuts the fibers around the root, loosening the tooth with little force on the surrounding bone. Commonly used where the socket will receive an implant. The bayonet offset helps reach posterior teeth. The titanium nitride coating gives a hard, gold-colored finish.
